This is the author Vidyāraṇya's pratijñā — the opening vow of the Taittirīya-vidyāprakāśa, the second chapter of his Anubhūti-prakāśa, declaring what he is about to do. Having expounded the Ṛgveda's Upaniṣad (the Aitareya), he turns now to the Taittirīya recension of the Kṛṣṇa Yajurveda. Of its three parts — Śīkṣāvallī, Brahmavallī, Bhṛguvallī — brahmavidyā is taught chiefly in the Brahmavallī, so he vows to restate in his own ślokas the knowledge of the Supreme Self that Tittiri taught there through reasoning (ūhāpoha), and to do it sukhāvabodhāya, for effortless grasp. The word krīḍan, "at play," is the key to his whole method: realization should come not as a burden but as delight. He will touch the Śīkṣāvallī, Bhṛguvallī and Mahānārāyaṇa only by brief indication, keeping the Brahmavallī at the centre.

A commentary that begins by promising to be easy and playful is making a claim about the knowledge itself. Vidyāraṇya's first move is to promise sukhāvabodha — effortless understanding — and to call himself krīḍan, at play. This is not a lowering of standards; it is a thesis. Brahmavidyā, for him, is not a fortress to be stormed by dialectic but a recognition to be eased into. Where Śaṅkara's bhāṣya advances by meeting and defeating the opponent, Vidyāraṇya's verse advances by clarity and convergence, trusting that the truth, once shown plainly from many sides, simply lands.
The verse also fixes the architecture of the whole Taittirīya book. By naming the Brahmavallī as his source, Vidyāraṇya signals that the phonetics and ritual-contemplations of the Śīkṣāvallī are not where he will dwell; he goes straight to where the Upaniṣad defines Brahman as satyaṃ jñānam anantam and maps the five sheaths. The Śīkṣāvallī and Bhṛguvallī he gestures at; the Ānandavallī he inhabits. For the reader, that is the map: the magnum opus organizes itself around the heart of the teaching, not the running order of the text.
And the defense of studying all the Upaniṣads — built on Śaṅkara's principle that converging testimony is itself a ground of certainty — answers a doubt every serious seeker feels: haven't I understood this already; why keep reading? The answer is that conviction in non-dual matters is cumulative. One Upaniṣad can inform you; the chorus of all of them removes the last residue of doubt. The partridge-sage's teaching is one voice in that chorus, and this is the vow to make it sing clearly.
Vidyāraṇya opens with his own vow, naming source (Brahmavallī), subject (brahmavidyā), and method (ease, play) before a single doctrine is stated.
- సుఖావబోధాయ క్రీడన్ — the governing tone of the magnum opus: realization as delight, not strain; clarity over polemic.
- బ్రహ్మవల్లీ-కేంద్రం — the Taittirīya book is built around the Ānandavallī; Śīkṣā and Bhṛgu are touched only by indication.
Converging pramāṇas yield certainty (Śaṅkara, BS 1.1.10; Ānandādhikaraṇa 3.3.6); a lone testimony leaves doubt.
- తిత్తిరి-పరంపరా — the teaching is received, not invented: what Tittiri set down sāṅgopāṅga, Vidyāraṇya distills into verse for the mumukṣu.
Audio — this opening is a maṅgala-pratijñā śloka in anuṣṭubh metre; recite it with even, unhurried pāda-breaks. Let brahmavallyāṃ brahmavidyāṃ open as a statement of intent, and krīḍann atra mumukṣavaḥ close warmly, as an address to the listener.
